I will tend the night garden

In this body of work, I explore the loaded imagery of night time – shadow and light, movement and stillness, quiet and noise – to bridge the gap between formative experiences of fear and wonder. Using the materiality of graphite on paper in combination with tense compositions, these works propose a theoretical space wherein unease and the sublime converse with, rather than oppose, one another. My goal with this series was to offer the viewer something familiar, where, even if the image is ominous, you might be able to say, I know this kind of place, or I recognize this feeling.

I will tend the night garden was part of the MFA candidacy group exhibition, Softer Fields, at Fort Worth Contemporary Arts, Texas Christian University.
